A young motorcyclist has been killed in a crash with a van in Aberdeenshire.

The 18-year-old was riding a Lexmoto LXR 125 when the collision with a Volkswagen Transporter occurred on Watermill Road in Fraserburgh at around 3.10pm on Thursday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Volkswagen did not require treatment.

The road was closed while inquiries took place, reopening at around 11.30pm.

Police Scotland Sergeant Dave Cooper said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who has died at this difficult time.

“Inquiries are ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash to contact us. We’d also ask anyone with dashcam footage to come forward.”
