At around 3am on Sunday, the man was walking on the A75 between the roundabout at Lockerbie Road and the roundabout for the A701, in Dumfries.

He was hit by the silver Ford Fiesta, which then collided with a silver lorry travelling on the opposite side of the road.

Emergency responders attended but the man was pronounced dead at the scene, and no other injuries were reported.

The man’s family have been informed.

The road is currently closed as police continue to make inquiries and roadworks are carried out on the affected area.

Sergeant Wayne Carnochan, of Police Scotland, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of the man who died at this extremely difficult time.

“Our inquiries into the crash are ongoing and we’d ask anyone who witnessed the crash, or saw the man or either vehicle prior, to come forward and speak with officers.

“I’d also ask that those who were driving in the area at the time with a dashcam review the footage to see if it has captured anything of significance.”
