A teenager is fighting for her life after the car she was a passenger in was involved in a motorway crash.

The 18-year-old woman was taken to hospital after the silver Volkswagen Golf she was in left the road as part of what police describe as a “serious crash” on the M80 motorway.

The incident happened on the northbound sections of the road, between junctions three and four, near Moodiesburn at about 7pm on Sunday June 28.

The injured 18-year-old was taken to hospital after the incident, with her condition described as being life threatening.

Our inquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing and I would urge anyone who may be able to help to get in touch

The 20-year-old male driver of the Volkswagen was also taken to hospital, though his injuries are not said to be life threatening.

A black Mercedes A200 was also involved in the incident, though neither of the people in that vehicle were injured, Police Scotland said.

The northbound section of the M80 was closed for about three hours afterwards as investigations were carried out.

Police are also appealing for anyone with information about the crash to contact them.

Sergeant Andrew Coutts, of Police Scotland’s road policing unit, said: “Our inquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing and I would urge anyone who may be able to help to get in touch.

“We would be keen to speak to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the collision as well.”
