A teenager has been charged in connection with the death of a man who died after an alleged assault during a disturbance in Glasgow.

Daniel Colrain, 21, suffered serious injuries in the incident in Royal Exchange Square in the city centre, which took place at about 3.05am on Sunday.

He was taken to hospital where he died on Monday.

Police said that a 19-year-old man who was arrested on Wednesday has now been charged in connection with the death.

He will appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court in due course.

A second 19-year-old man was arrested in connection with the disturbance at the time and released pending further enquiries.

Mr Colrain worked at The Old Smiddy Bar in Glasgow, where staff have set up a fundraiser in his memory which has raised more than £24,000.

In a message on the JustGiving page, Mr Colrain’s colleagues said they were “completely heartbroken” by his loss and had set up the fundraiser to support his family and assist with his funeral and memorial arrangements.

They said: “To know Daniel was to experience his warmth and kindness firsthand… he brought so much light to our team and will be dearly, dearly missed.”

Another man, aged 21, was also allegedly assaulted and sustained minor injuries during the incident.

A 20-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with this and is due to appear at Glasgow Sheriff Court at a later date.

Police said that investigations are continuing.
