The family of a monk who went missing from an island monastery have been informed after a body was found in the water.
Justin Evans, 24, was reported missing from the Orkney island of Papa Stronsay on Sunday April 12.
Police said a man’s body was found in the water near the island of Stronsay at around 7.25am on Wednesday.
Formal identification has yet to take place however the family of Mr Evans have been informed.
Police said the death is being treated as unexplained.
Mr Evans, also known as Brother Ignatius, was last seen at the Golgotha Monastery on Papa Stronsay just before midnight on April 11.
The Diocese of Aberdeen previously expressed its “deep sadness” at what it referred to as the “disappearance and presumed death” of the 24-year-old, originally from New Zealand and a member of the Redemptorist Community.
Police said investigations are continuing and a report will be submitted to the procurator fiscal in due course.
